Ship Of Theseus is based upon the concepts of impermanence and identity. The basic riddle of the "Ship of Theseus" is how much material can be replaced by copies until the original is no longer the original. For example: over fifty years you've gradually replaced almost every piece of your car. Is it still the same car even though it looks the same? We as individuals, are we the same people we assume we are? Each decade our bodies have shed most of our cells and grown new ones; even our ideas, beliefs and opinions have changed. Yet we insist on thinking we're the exact same person we've "aways" been. But are we? Is this possible or even a valid question? The truth is everything changes. Nothing is permanent. We're like ghost ships adrift, clinging to our self importance. Ship Of Theseus uses this notion of the ghost ship and impermanence as a thematic link for the project. Feel free to send me an e-mail telling me I'm a pretentious twit!
